Position Summary
Cesium’s core mission is to advance 3D geospatial through openness, community, and collaboration. Our success depends on a thriving ecosystem of developers empowered to create useful applications for a wide range of markets.
The Community Manager will build on Cesium’s existing roots in Japan that have been fostered since our spin-out in 2019 and will work to foster the growth and adoption of Cesium technology, engage with the developer community, promote the Cesium Certified Developer Program, work to source promising candidates for our Ecosystems Grants program, and connect customers and developers for win-win collaborations.
Responsibilities:
· Focused on developing our number of Certified Developer in Japan and staying connected with developer-focused events and exhibitions
· Connect to reputable developer communities at higher education institutions that are fostering future 3D developers on Cesium, as well as major government programs like MLIT which needs developer engagement with Cesium.
· Promoting, building, and fostering a thriving community of Cesium developers in Japan.
· Collaborate directly with the community via forums and virtual gatherings.
· Promoting Cesium in many circles in Japan, and our increased inbound activity for business development.
· Deepen the value that Cesium brings to our established partners and customers by connecting Cesium developers and Cesium’s marquee partners as appropriate.
· Represent Cesium’s brand as an authority in 3D geospatial and open source
Required Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities
Knowledge:
Cesium Fundamentals: Existing knowledge of or ability to quickly acquire basic understanding of Cesium, 3D graphics, and other useful concepts including:
Cesium ion platform and its uses
3D Tiles and other Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) formats
Cesium JS
Geospatial data sets including commercial and open source (OSM)
Runtime game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine)
Emerging technologies like VR/AR
*Programming in JS and other relevant languages is a plus!
Japanese 3D and Open Source Developer Scene: Awareness of the key communities and organizations, trends, and popular software/hardware within the Japanese 3D graphics and open source industry.
Community Building Principles: Knowledge of online community dynamics, in-person and event engagement strategies, moderation techniques, and platform best practices.
Skills:
Communication (Japanese & English):
Native or near-native fluency in Japanese, both written and spoken, is crucial for engaging with the local community. Professional proficiency in English for international communication and collaboration.
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build rapport, foster relationships, and navigate cultural nuances within the Japanese context.
Event Planning & Organization: Experience in organizing online and offline events, meetups, workshops, and conferences.
Content Creation: Ability to create engaging content (e.g., blog posts, social media updates, tutorials) in both Japanese and English.
Technical Proficiency: While not necessarily a graphics artist, the ability to make basic visuals and or communicate visual concepts to marketing and communications teams in order to generate promotional materials for web, events, or similar.
Social Media Management: Expertise in using social media and similar platforms to engage with the Japanese developer community.
Abilities:
Cultural Sensitivity: Deep understanding of Japanese business etiquette, communication styles, and cultural values.
Adaptability: Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
Problem-Solving: Ability to address community issues, resolve conflicts, and find creative solutions.
Passion for 3D Graphics: Genuine enthusiasm for 3D graphics and a desire to support the growth of the community.
Additional Considerations:
Networking: Existing connections within the Japanese 3D graphics industry, open source communities, higher education, or other related communities can be a significant advantage.
Business Acumen: Understanding of marketing, public relations, and business development can help connect our work in community engagement to real business outcomes in collaboration with the business teams.
