Position Summary: 

 

We are looking for an experienced VP of Software Engineering to manage a diverse, globally distributed development team across 6 countries, a leader who has proven experience of lifting and shifting legacy client/server solutions to the cloud, integrating and rationalizing a broad portfolio of products, and delivering world class enterprise collaboration and asset performance management software. 

 

The product unit Bentley Infrastructure Cloud is responsible for building enterprise applications that our customers use to manage complex design and construction projects as well as manage the performance of their assets. The teams are globally distributed, with the main development locations in US (East Coast), Canada, UK, Lithuania, and India and an engineering team of more than 500 colleagues. 

 

The mission of Bentley Infrastructure Cloud is to connect people and data by providing integrated workflows on Bentley’s iTwin platform using digital twins across the entire infrastructure lifecycle. The product portfolio includes ProjectWise for project delivery, SYNCHRO for construction management, and AssetWise for asset operations. Our strategy is to evolve these products into a unified, cloud-based offering that continues to connect engineering data throughout the lifecycle of design, construction, and operations, allowing engineering firms and owner-operators to derive more value from their data by leveraging digital twins, making better decisions, leading to better infrastructure outcomes. 

 

The VP of Software Engineering will lead fundamental software product, engineering, organizational and operational changes, playing a pivotal role in our strategic transformation to platform-centric software engineering practices whilst modernizing our technology stack. 

 

The successful candidate must have strong technical background to lead our engineering teams with a proven track record of building and scaling engineering solutions and modernizing large-scale platforms for the B2B market. We are looking for a leader that can focus the team around a clear and purposeful technical culture that embraces values such as continuous learning, empowered teams and operational excellence. 

 

 

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Leading the transformation of a broad portfolio of purpose-built products towards a unified suite of capabilities across the entire infrastructure lifecycle. 

  • Foster a culture of cross-product collaboration and operational excellence to drive higher levels of system reliability, software quality and resiliency throughout the technology stack and through modern delivery practices. 

  • Develop a clear understanding of what development processes and common componentry should be consistent across multiple products. 

  • Deeply understand customer problems and provide technical leadership to develop the most optimal solutions. 

  • Ensuring customer adoption is one of the key measures of success and fostering a mindset where teams actively seek to establish connections with the customer to build strong empathy. 

  • Focusing on efficiency in our global teams, identifying and delivering shared microservices to both improve quality and time to market, drive continual process improvements that positively impact cost, revenue, performance efficiency, process development and solution delivery. 

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience: 

 

  • Senior Leadership Experience: 15+ years of experience managing and building large scale, globally distributed software engineering teams.  

  • Proven experience of successfully transforming B2B legacy technology products to the cloud whilst minimizing disruption to customers as well as integrating and consolidating a broad product portfolio, at scale  

  • Strong business judgment, leadership, and integrity: A tenacious decision maker, able to bring a healthy, assertive approach to solving business problems. 

  • Ensure seamless team cohesion and foster effective collaboration. 

  • Strong executive communication skills: strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement with peers and leaders in the organization across  

  • Fluent in Agile development practices including iterative and continuous delivery. 

  • Experience of working with  Javascript, React.js/native, Azure services and technology, Microsoft DevOps Git, Github and with continuous deployment of secure, scalable services in the Cloud using micro-services architecture and extensibility would be a distinct advantage. 

  • Post Graduate degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience required. 

  • Ability to travel up to 20% globally.  

  • Requires sitting or standing at will while performing work on a computer (or any other physical requirements). The role requires communication with managers, peers, and other colleagues of the company by utilizing Microsoft Teams chat, calling, and meeting functions.
