Position Summary
Bentley Systems is seeking a Manager, Software Development to lead and develop teams within our Platform organization. The Platform organization is building the foundation that enables Bentley and its ecosystem to create digital twin experiences for the built and natural environment through open platforms, open standards, and developer-focused technologies.
Reporting to the Head of Software Engineering, this role is responsible for building and leading high-performing software development teams that deliver impactful platform capabilities while creating an environment where engineers can do their best work and grow their careers. While the primary focus of this role is leading people and developing talent, the successful candidate must be able to establish credibility with technical leads and senior engineers enabling strong partnerships and effective leadership within highly technical teams
We are looking for a Manager, Software Development who is passionate about developing people and helping teams achieve their full potential. This role is responsible for setting clear expectations, providing coaching and feedback, managing performance, supporting career growth, and building an engaged, high-performing team culture. They champion Bentley's vision, foster accountability and collaboration, and help teams stay focused on delivering meaningful outcomes for our users and business.
Success in this role is measured through the growth and engagement of colleagues, the strength of the team culture, and the team's ability to consistently deliver results. The manager will partner closely with Technical Leads, Product Managers, and peer leaders to create clarity, alignment, and focus across the organization.
This is people leadership role. Success is defined by developing talent, building strong teams, creating accountability, and enabling others to deliver exceptional results.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop their team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous learning, and high performance.
- Set clear expectations, provide ongoing feedback, manage performance, and support the career growth and development of team members.
- Build and maintain engaged, inclusive, and high-performing teams while identifying and developing future leaders and key talent.
- Align teams around business priorities, goals, and desired outcomes, ensuring teams have the clarity, focus, and support needed to deliver successfully.
- Drive accountability for results and partner closely with Technical Leads, Product Managers, and peer leaders to successfully deliver results.
- Champion Bentley's vision, values, and strategic priorities, helping teams understand how their work contributes to broader organizational success.
- Support hiring, workforce planning, retention, and team health to ensure long-term organizational effectiveness.
- Foster collaboration across teams and remove barriers that impact team performance and delivery.
- This role requires minimal travel.
- Requires sitting or standing at will while performing work on a computer (or any other physical requirements).
Qualifications
- Passion for people leadership, coaching, and talent development, with a desire to build strong teams and help others succeed.
- 5+ years of progressive management experience leading and developing software engineering teams in a technical environment.
- Demonstrated success developing technical talent through coaching, feedback, performance management, and career development.
- High emotional intelligence with a transparent, collaborative leadership style.
- Proven ability to build engaged, high-performing teams and establish credibility with technical leads and senior engineers while fostering a culture of trust, accountability, and collaboration.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence across teams and functions.
- Ability to create clarity, align teams around priorities, and lead effectively through change and ambiguity.
- Understanding of software development practices, engineering team dynamics, and the challenges of delivering technology solutions at scale.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
