Position Summary:
Bentley is creating the open platform for the built and natural environment to empower software developers to build digital twin experiences. Cesium has more than 10,000,000 lifetime open-source downloads, and the Cesium ion cloud reaches more than 20,000 monthly active developers. We believe in advancing the platform for the collective success of the ecosystem and equipping the software developer community with open source and open standards. Our work has broad reach ranging from the world’s largest construction companies to the US government to FOX Sports on NFL SUNDAY. This senior leadership role reports to and collaborates closely with the Chief Platform Officer to empower Bentley’s platform software development teams to do their best work and continuously ship meaningful software that impacts the world and our business.
Responsibilities:
- Leads a global engineering team of 150 colleagues, mainly across the US East Coast, Canada, Lithuania, and India.
- Facilitates a culture of openness and collaboration, internally within and among teams, and externally with the open-source community that we serve.
- Runs the systems and processes to enable us to continuously ship high-quality software that users want while transparently engaging all stakeholders.
- Collaborates cross-functionally, especially with Product Management to execute the roadmap.
- Continuously brings modern software engineering practices and automation across the lifecycle including API design, development, testing, DevSecOps, documentation, and cloud architecture.
- Recruiting, mentoring, and people management for multiple layers of managers and individual contributors.
Requirements:
- This is a senior leadership role requiring creating space for teams to do their best work; culture championing; and running systems and processes. This is not a technical expert role.
- Has 20+ years of experience in software development with significant and sustained demonstratable experience of leading global teams at scale to enduring success.
- Leadership experience developing successful APIs, libraries, platforms, and/or specifications for software developers.
- Not necessarily currently an active software developer but is able to facilitate best practices for API design and software engineering.
- Is a fantastic communicator in person and in writing to a variety of stakeholders, including technical and non-technical audiences, and individual contributors and executives.
- Is transparent, has no hidden agenda, and demonstrates a high degree of emotional intelligence.
- Knowledge of geospatial, AECO, and/or computer graphics is preferred.
- Knowledge of TypeScript, JavaScript, C++, SQL, AWS, and/or Azure is a bonus.
- Knowledge of Cesium, 3D Tiles, glTF, iTwin, BIS, and/or iModel is a bonus.
- Master’s degree preferred or equivalent experience required.
- Hybrid in-person in Philadelphia is preferred; remote is also an option.
- Purpose-based global travel may be about 25%.
- Requires sitting or standing at will while performing work on a computer (or any other physical requirements). The role requires communication with managers, peers, and other colleagues of the company by utilizing Microsoft Teams chat, calling, and meeting functions
