Position Summary:

Bentley’s Solution Engineering team partners with sales to showcase the value of Bentley solutions to infrastructure and utility companies worldwide. As an Application Engineer, you will help customers in the electric utilities industry solve complex business and engineering challenges by designing, positioning, and demonstrating integrated solutions across Bentley’s portfolio, with a focus on overhead lines.

 

Working closely with sales, product, and industry teams, you will understand customer objectives, define solution architectures, and deliver technical presentations, demos, workshops, training, and support aligned with utility workflows and industry standards. You will play a key role in driving customer success, product adoption, and ARR growth while helping utilities plan, design, and deliver critical transmission and distribution infrastructure projects.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Promote Bentley solutions to infrastructure audiences, demonstrating value to designers, engineers, architects, contractors, and owners to help achieve business goals.
  • Lead technical discovery engagements to understand business goals, engineering requirements, and enterprise workflows.
  • Design and position integrated solution architectures for electric utilities, aligning workflows with user objectives.
  • Develop and deliver demos, presentations, workshops, and proof-of-value scenarios for users, prospects, and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare datasets, models, and scenarios to support demos, presentations, and account advancement activities.
  • Support discovery sessions to define solution requirements aligned with account objectives.
  • Manage user experience and feature enhancement requests, identifying workarounds and sharing feedback with development teams.
  • Support sales and marketing events, industry conferences, and creation of booth and promotional materials.
  • Contribute to proposals, account planning, and opportunity strategy alongside Enterprise Account Managers.
  • Provide structured customer feedback to Product and Industry Teams to inform roadmap priorities and product improvements.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, standards, and competitor solutions to recommend effective product configurations.
  • Act as a technical thought leader through industry participation, enablement, and knowledge sharing.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders and users to gather insights and support account strategy.
  • Communicate effectively with account stakeholders and internal teams, contributing to account meetings and planning.
  • Support sales opportunities using the Bentley Sales Process and Salesforce documentation.
  • Facilitate smooth transitions to Services engagements through knowledge sharing.
  • Engage with customers, industry groups, and strategic partners to identify market opportunities.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (or a related technology/infrastructure field); Professional Engineer registration preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in:
    • Overhead line design.
    • Participating overhead line projects from concept through energization.
    • Field construction and project management for overhead lines.
    • Using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and TOWER software.
    • Supporting structure design, including lattice steel and guyed structures/poles.
    • Coordinating with related utility disciplines such as generation, substations, and line planning.
  • Strong understanding of the Transmission & Distribution (T&D) industry, including utility standards, methodologies, codes, and operating environments.
  • Experience with electric utility design and analysis tools, including Bentley and related engineering applications.
  • Ability to position integrated, multi-product solutions rather than single-application deployments.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Consultative mindset with the ability to translate customer challenges into solution architectures and value propositions.
  • Passion for customer experience, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to quickly learn complex products.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across sales, customer success, and product teams.
  • Technical sales experience in infrastructure or related industries preferred.
  • Knowledge of Bentley Systems solutions preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
