Position Summary:


Bentley is seeking a Data Protection Officer (DPO) to join our global Compliance Team.  The DPO will be based in Dublin, in a role designed to advance Bentley in meeting ongoing statutory obligations under the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The DPO will report directly to the Compliance Director in Exton, Pennsylvania.  Areas of focus will be on internal data protection and privacy policies and practices, particularly in the European Union, to ensure the business and its functions comply with applicable data protection and privacy laws and regulations. The DPO will be generally responsible for colleague training, internal audits, and data protection impact assessments.


Your Day to Day:


The key responsibilities of the role are to assist the Compliance Director in meeting and exceeding GDPR and other global data protection and privacy compliance responsibilities as follows:


  • Promote data protection awareness throughout the organization by providing training to various business functions and colleagues.
  • Assist in developing and implementing a Privacy Impact Assessment tool in accordance with applicable business units and functions.
  • Provide information and guidance to regional business units on the collection and processing of personal data.
  • Process, coordinate and respond to EU data subject requests for information.
  • Maintain and establish a register of data owners for sets of information and educate the data owners on privacy by design principles and other responsibilities.
  • Assist in maintaining data inventories and data flow maps and update as necessary.
  • Undertake systematic data protection compliance audits in accordance with GDPR articles and other global privacy mandates.
  • Interpret and provide guidance to the organization on forthcoming and changes to data protection legislation on GDPR, ePrivacy Directive, and other global mandates.
  • Support the creation of local or business unit specific data protection policies or standards.


What you Bring to the Team:


  • Minimum of 3 years working experience in privacy, data protection, or IT governance or compliance with a global organization.
  • Knowledge of data protection laws and privacy practices with expert knowledge of European data protection laws and practices, specifically GDPR.
  • English fluency required, fluency in other languages, particularly German preferred.
  • Good "translator" of legal requirements into organizational policies and procedures.
  • CIPP or similar data protection or IT auditor qualifications highly desirable.
  • Good understanding of project management an advantage.
  • Knowledge of IT systems, processes, and information security practices.
  • Ability to communicate with internal stakeholders, data protection authorities, and accounts and users.
  • An ability to cultivate and build collaborative working relationships with a broad range of enterprise stakeholders
