Position Summary:


The DevOps Engineer is part of a team who manage the development, configuration, implementation and roll out of the GeoConnect+ platform and associated applications within our client’s projects and businesses. Doing this well will enable our clients to unlock value and build resilience by delivering, operating, and optimizing their built assets.


Connecting, integrating and transforming data in clients source systems and visualizing this is a key capability of the GeoConnect+ platform. The DevOps Engineer is responsible for building, testing and maintaining the infrastructure, and selecting and deploying tools to simplify and accelerate the software development and release process. The DevOps Engineer will provide specialist advice to the PCSG team and, where required, to our clients.


The ideal candidate will have a broad range of skills, experience and capabilities as follows:

  • Experience of the Software Development Lifecycle
  • Experience of software development and coding
  • Experience of building automated CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience of building monitoring/observability solutions
  • Experience of working in an Agile environment
  • Expert knowledge of Kubernetes (AKS), Docker, Helm, Terraform/Terragrunt, Microsoft Azure
  • PaaS and IaaS services
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders


There will be no standard day-to-day agenda. The role will require a highly adaptive person who is able to work remotely and at PCSG/client offices as required to meet the needs of PCSG




Your Day-to-Day:


Tools & Infrastructure

  • Building, selecting and setting up new development tools and infrastructure
  • Managing tools and testing environments
  • Guiding others regarding the best tools to use

Process automation

  • Identifying ways to automate and improve development and release processes
  • Writing software to automate systems
  • Implementing proposed solutions

Quality Management

  • Working with software developers to ensure that development follows established processes and standards
  • Defining approaches to understanding and documenting user stories, and guiding others in doing so

Systems Design & Development

  • Selecting appropriate design standards and ensuring that they are applied effectively
  • Maintaining control of central code
  • Ensuring that developments align with the code and branching strategy

Availability & Capacity Management

  • Ensuring the correct implementation of standards and procedures, identifying capacity issues, stipulating and instigating the required change to address any issues
  • Managing service components to ensure they meet business needs and performance targets


  • Ensuring that systems are designed with security controls embedded to mitigate against security threats



What You Bring to The Team:


  • Degree and / or Higher National qualifications related to Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Information Management or Computer Science required
  • Professional certification in DevOps through BCS (British Computer Society) or equivalent desirable
  • A DevOps professional with extensive experience in Kubernetes (AKS), Docker, Helm, Terraform/Terragrunt, Microsoft Azure PaaS and IaaS services
  • Experienced in building automated CI/CD pipelines and building monitoring/observability solutions
  • Experience of the Software Development Lifecycle, coding and code management
  • Experience in Agile software delivery and use of JIRA
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to communicate and collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solving skills and good attention to detail
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Knowledge of existing and emerging digital technology and how it can add value and deliver efficiencies to existing processes and practices is desirable, but not essential.
