Environmental Sustainability Manager

Position Summary:
Bentley Systems is seeking an Environmental Sustainability Manager to support and help drive the environmental component of the company’s ESG strategy and program, as part of the Sustainability and Education team.
This role will focus on environmental performance management, footprint tracking, regulatory compliance, and external environmental reporting (GHG and non-GHG). The Environmental Sustainability Manager will also contribute technical expertise to the development, assessment, and testing of digital tools, partnerships, and user projects related to environmental performance and accountability (including LCA-related capabilities).
In addition, the role will support internal engagement and advocacy activities that contribute to building a strong and credible culture of sustainability across the company.
Responsibilities:
Environmental ESG & Reporting
- Support the implementation and ongoing improvement of Bentley’s environmental ESG program, keeping abreast of relevant frameworks, methodologies, and reporting standards
- Manage regulated and non-regulated environmental-related sustainability reporting (GHG and non-GHG), including data collection, analysis, validation, and documentation
- Manage Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG inventories, leading cross-functional efforts to conduct inventories
- Oversee the company’s validated Science Based Target initiative commitments
- Support current and future regulated environmental reporting requirements, including UK ESOS, EU CSRD and others
- Coordinate the aggregation and reporting of environmental qualitative and quantitative data to external ESG frameworks and ratings (e.g. CDP, S&P CSA, ISS, MSCI, Sustainalytics) while collaborating with stakeholders to work to improve the outcomes of these ratings and rankings
- Oversee the preparation of the company’s Impact Report for the environmental section
- Perform environmental ESG reporting gap analyses to identify disclosure needs, risks, and improvement opportunities, including developing roadmaps to address these improvement opportunities
- Conduct quality control checks to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of environmental ESG information
- Work closely with the Director of Sustainability on environmental strategy, target setting, and prioritization of footprint initiatives.
Data, Systems & Continuous Improvement
- Support the design and administration of environmental data collection processes and systems across the company
- Drive continuous improvement of environmental ESG data workflows, tools, and reporting processes
- Identify and assess new technologies, data sources, or methodologies that could improve efficiency or data quality
- Lead environmental data third-party assurance process
External Engagement & Standards
- Work with external organizations and initiatives (e.g. WBCSD, UN Global Compact) to support continuous improvement in corporate environmental performance
- Monitor emerging environmental regulations, disclosure requirements, and best practices relevant to Bentley’s operations and commitments
Products, Users & Technical Support
- Provide environmental and sustainability expertise to internal teams (product, marketing, sales) supporting the development and testing of environmental analysis capabilities, including LCA-related tools
- Support the assessment of user projects (e.g. Going Digital Awards) from an environmental and sustainability perspective
- Assist internal and external stakeholders with environmental sustainability-related initiatives, projects, and deliverables
Communication & Culture
- Research and develop environmental sustainability narratives and insights related to both Bentley’s internal operations and its products and solutions
- Contribute environmental ESG content to support the development of Bentley’s annual impact report and related communications
- Support internal communication and colleague engagement initiatives that promote environmental awareness and a culture of sustainability
- Is this an individual contributor role or requires people Management.
- This is a full-time role expected to work 40 hours per week.
- This role requires communication with Managers, peers and other colleagues of the company in person, and/or by utilizing Microsoft Teams chat, calling and meeting functions.
- No travel required.
- Requires sitting or standing at will while performing work on a computer (or any other physical requirements).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 5-7 years of experience in ESG, corporate sustainability, environmental reporting, or a related role, ideally within a global or publicly traded organization
- Working knowledge of corporate responsibility and environmental reporting frameworks and standards (e.g. GRI, SASB, CDP, TCFD, ESRS/CSRD, ISSB), with the ability to quickly learn and apply new requirements
- Solid understanding of environmental performance metrics, including GHG emissions accounting (Scope 1, 2 and 3) and other environmental indicators
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with experience working with large datasets and translating data into actionable insights
- Experience supporting or managing ESG or sustainability data collection, validation, and reporting processes
- Ability to work effectively across multiple teams and functions to develop scalable solutions and support business decision-making
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Detail-oriented, organized, and adaptable, with good business and financial awareness
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
