Incident Responder Intern

 

Position Summary 

Assisting the service desk and other staff with mitigation of vulnerabilities and threats found during monitoring. Review firewall logs after system mitigation has been performed by to ensure proper threat mitigation has been performed.

Responsibilities
 

  • Monitor Daily firewall activities and perform threat analysis on traffic. This can include but is not limited to Vulnerability/Exploit detection, virus detection, identification of false positives, evasion detection and more.
  • Create tickets in a help system for threats and vulnerabilities found during traffic analysis and assign them to the appropriate staff.
  • Review firewall logs after system mitigation has been performed by to ensure proper threat mitigation has been performed.
  • Generate reports of daily threat activities found.
  • Have weekly meetings with the Network Security team to review the results and mitigation performed on threats that have been detected over the previous week.
  • Assist the Network Security team with various tasks. Tasks include reviewing vulnerabilities found during in house scanning, creating tickets based on scan results, and assigning tickets to the appropriate staff for mitigation.
  • Installing and configuring various security controls deployed throughout our environment such as firewalls, IDS, honey pot systems, network traffic analysis tools, and vulnerability scanners.
  • Assist the service desk and other staff with mitigation of vulnerabilities and threats found during monitoring.

 

Qualifications:

  • Candidate for Bachelor's degree program with a focus in Information Technology/ Security or equivalent
  • Prior internship experience in IT with an emphasis in network security
  • Open mind for feedback and collaboration for personal and professional growth

 

Preferred but not required –

Knowledge in the following areas:

  • Technical knowledge of industry standard Information Security tools
  • Technical knowledge of global incident response processes
  • Current and legacy Windows operating systems
  • Current and legacy Linux systems
  • Various protocols such as FTP, SSH, Telnet, and others
  • Understanding of how domain infrastructure components function together including but not limited to domain controllers, DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, ADFS, and others
